The sailors who perished in the incident were buried on this island. Over the years, the island became desolate. In a late 19th-century French map of Halong Bay, the island was labeled as Cat Nang. On January 22, 1962, President Ho Chi Minh and Soviet cosmonaut Gherman Stepanovich Titov visited the island. To commemorate their visit, President Ho renamed the island Titov.
